Called to Be a Blessing…

When God called Abram from Ur to Canaan He had two important purposes in mind. In Genesis 12:1-3 God said to Abram, “I have called you out to bless you and to make you a blessing.”
First know that God desires to bless your life with good things. Psalm 103:5 declares that God “satisfies your mouth with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.” God’s desire from the beginning has always been to bless mankind. That is still His desire for you as well. Do not judge God’s goodness by the present circumstances of your life. Everyone faces tough times in life, but if you will trust in God and in His word you will out last and overcome your tough times.
God not only desires to bless you personally, but wants to bring forth His grace in such measure through your life that you become a blessing to others. Remember this, whatever God does to bless your life, a portion of it is to be used to bless the life of someone else. In Nehemiah 8:10 Israel is rejoicing at the renewal of God’s covenant. After their great joy of renewal God said this to them, “Go you way, eat the fat and drink the sweet and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared.” Even in your tough times you will find the richness (fat) of God’s grace and the sweetness (joy) of His mercy and goodness to be present in you life. Take a portion and give it to someone else who is facing life without it.
If you learn this great secret of receiving and giving you will always be blessed and be a blessing to others!
Dare to Believe…

History is filled with individuals who displayed daring faith in the face of the impossible; from Charles Lindbergh’s first trans-Atlantic flight from America to Europe to Neil Armstrong as the first man to step foot on the moon. All the great men and women through history in the areas of science, medicine, education and invention have had this one thing in common; daring faith. The belief that just because men said a thing was impossible did not make it so. They pressed on by faith and changed the course of mankind.
God has put something in us, something called faith. It is intangible and unmeasurable by scientific methods, but has the power to propel people forward to accomplish the impossible and overcome insurmountable circumstances in life. (Mark 11:23)
In the Bible a man called Bartimaeus was living with an impossible situation, he was blind. Upon hearing of Jesus passing by he began to cry out with a loud voice to be healed. Everyone around him told him to be quiet, but he called out the louder. (Mark 10:46-52) There will always be the voices of those who will see only the limitations, but you, like Bartemaeus, must be able to ignore them and press through with your faith in God. Jesus said to Bartemaeus, “You faith has made you well.”
People with daring faith will not give up or give in because they know that the impossible is merely the view from man’s perspective, but faith is the view from God’s. Go forth in faith, faith in a great God and faith in His promises. People and circumstances may say no way, but Jesus says, “I am the way…” Dare to believe. God will not fail you!

Field of Dreams…

We are all familiar with the movie where Kevin Costner gets a dream to build a baseball field in the middle of nowhere with the promise, “if you build it they will come.” The story progresses as he has to overcome inward doubts, outward obstacles and many skeptics. But he persevered and accomplished it and achieved his dream.
In the book of Ruth we see Naomi returning to Israel as a widow with no family except her daughter-in-law Ruth. In the story Ruth begins looking for a field in which to glean the leftover grain and prays to the Lord to show her a field where she would find favor.
She ended up in the field of Boaz who saw her and from whom she received favor. He instructed his workers to leave extra grain behind on purpose for Ruth to gather. She had found her “field of dreams” where God’s favor shone upon her with great blessing. Eventually Boaz and Ruth married and from their descendants came Jesus Christ.
God has a field of favor for each one of us. A place where we can realize the fulfillment of the dream He has put within our hearts. Not just any field will do it must be the one where you have favor! Pray as Ruth did and believe God to lead you to a place where His favor and blessing will be upon you and upon all to which you set your hand; a place that is favorable to accomplishing your dream. God has just such a place for your dream to be realized.
Like Costner’s character you will have to face your doubts and defeat them; face every obstacle and overcome them and face every skeptic and silence them in order to obtain your dream. But you will not be alone if your dream is from God for He will be with you to help you and encourage you every step of the way.
There is a field of dreams for you. If you find it, it will come, God’s favor and blessing upon your dream. Seek God, trust God and be ready to go where He leads.
